James McAlpine

James McAlpine is the Senior Partner for Control Risks’ Markets & Partnerships practice in Asia Pacific and sits on the Regional Executive Committee. Based in Singapore, he has responsibility for ensuring effective account management, business development and marketing strategies are implemented across all of the Asia Pacific sub-regions.

James joined Control Risks in 2003 and has played a number of key roles in London, Singapore and India, advising MNCs and local organisations on strategies to most effectively manage the risks to their personnel and their businesses, and maximise their commercial opportunities. In particular, he previously spent three years as the Senior Managing Director for Control Risks in India and South Asia based in New Delhi, where he held overall responsibility for the business throughout the subcontinent. Before that, James managed a team of senior risk consultants in Singapore focused on business development and key account management across South East Asia for five years, and before that he managed the Asia-Pacific section of Control Risks’ security intelligence and analysis services.

Before joining Control Risks, James worked as a journalist with the Bangkok Post in Thailand, and as an analyst for IBM in the UK. James holds a BA (Hons) degree from Manchester University, and an MLITT degree from Kings College, Aberdeen University. He also holds the International Certificate of Risk Management (Distinction) from the UK Institute of Risk Management (IRM).
